2021 - Ongoing Series
Inspired by Carl Jung’s concept of the shadow, this series examines the inner architecture of the self as something built out of necessity rather than beauty. The forms function as load-bearing structures, defensive constructions shaped by pressure, rupture, and survival.
Brutalism refers to the exposed, unornamented nature of these internal structures. Organic signals adaptation and change rather than softness. Sharp protrusions and curved forms coexist without resolution, reflecting the tension between protection and vulnerability.
The imagery resists narrative and autobiography. Faces, when present, remain anonymous and incomplete. Recognizable without becoming personal. What is revealed is not identity, but structure.
Created on USPS Priority Mail labels, objects designed for speed and disposability, the work relocates internal wounds onto a public, bureaucratic surface. The label becomes a site of containment rather than delivery.
This series does not offer healing or transcendence. It reclaims pain through recontextualization. Nothing is resolved. Nothing is shipped. The label remains.
These images are not to please you, but to make you realize how harsh conditions can be. How harsh each of us can be towards each other and ourselves. How harsh the hidden structures within us and the world can be. This series is a reminder to take it easy and not be so hard on yourself, others, and the world around us.
What does your shadow look like?
